MSM introduces its first T Level Student
The team at MSM aerospace fabricators is delighted to welcome Liam Elton, our first T Level student. Liam is studying a two-year course in Design and Development for Engineering and Manufacturing at Hopwood Hall College, Manchester. The course covers customer and client requirements, principles of design, design processes and communication in design, as well as specialist modules in mechanical, electronic, control & instrumentation and structural engineering. Liam is soon to complete his first 5-week placement at MSM before returning in May for another 5 weeks. Asked about his decision to study T Levels, Liam commented “The 80/20 split of time spent in the classroom and on an industry placement really appealed to me as it gives me the chance to experience a real workplace setting which I have enjoyed. Gaining the knowledge of what is required to work in the engineering industry and seeing elements of my course put into practice has been really helpful in my understanding”.
What are T Levels?
T Levels are a two-year qualification for 16-19 year olds designed in collaboration with employers. Each T Level is equivalent to 3 A Levels, with the aim to support the young person to develop their skills, knowledge and to thrive in the workplace.
Students choose different T Level specialisms, and develop the key skills required in industry. T Levels combine practical and knowledge-based learning at a school or college and on-the-job experience through an industry placement of at least 315 hours – approximately 45 days.
