MSM visits Avro Heritage Museum

MSM’s CEO, Michael Pedley, was given a tour of the fabulous Avro Heritage Museum, built on the former Avro and British Aerospace Manchester site at Woodford. The museum celebrates 100+ years of aviation in Manchester with exhibits also including Fairey aircraft, Metro-Vickers and Crossley engines.
Michael was pleased to meet our ex-CAA auditor, Jim Bean who works as a volunteer at the museum.
The prize exhibit is Avro Vulcan XM603, the former gate guardian at Woodford. Michael is in discussion to donate a Vulcan over-load fuel tank manufactured by MSM in the 1960’s for the production aircraft programme.

The Avro aircraft company opened its site at Woodford in Stockport 100 years ago. Workers there built some of the world’s most renowned aircraft, including the wartime Lancaster Bomber. To mark the centenary the Avro Heritage Museum, which is based at the site, has unveiled ambitious plans for a major extension. Expansion plans would see the Avro Heritage Museum increase the number of aircraft which can be on display, improve accessibility, and feature new interactive exhibitions.
The Avro Heritage Museum is packed with fascinating exhibits and is home to the only example of an all-white Vulcan bomber. The Museum is entirely self-funded, and staffed by passionate volunteers, many of whom worked at Chadderton and Woodford. It is very much preserving the story of Manchester’s role in Britain’s aviation history.
